The Spelman Blueprint
Spelman Reflections was founded on February 1, 1956 and was rooted in sisterhood and substance from the very beginning. In November of 1957, the masthead became
The Spelman Spotlight, though the design and editorial focus of the newspaper remained the same. In 2013, The Spelman Spotlight became The Spelman Blueprint and ran until 2019.
The Spelman Blueprint was reestablished in 2022 and continues today as the official news publication of Spelman College.
In the beginning
of my Spelman experience, I joined The Spelman Blueprint when it was in its infancy—just three months after its reestablishment. While the group was full of talented and passionate contributors, it lacked a clear vision of what it wanted to become and how it wanted to get there. This nebulous state made it difficult to answer key questions and get to know the team on a personal level. Yet, we still managed to publish engaging, eyebrow-raising work and cultivate a loyal audience that was eager to support us as we grew!
When I became Co-President and Co-Editor-In-Chief
I had two goals: to expand our coverage of Spelman College’s campus and to become a more tight-knit team
These two initiatives proved to be innately intertwined. By cultivating a space where people felt seen, heard, and empowered, I was able to motivate the staff to produce The Spelman Blueprint’s strongest work ever—which launched us into a season of growth.

A significant amount of The Spelman Blueprint’s strategy this academic year has been centered around activating our digital channels, specifically out Instagram.
By focusing on expanding our coverage of campus culture and events we have succeeded in serving as a mirror to the Spelman College Community and significantly expanding out audience.
